Erik,
You might want to have a look at the pages of the Intelligent Systems Lab
(ISL) here at Michigan State.
The HomePage of ISL is at
http://isl.cps.msu.edu/
ISL houses two major research groups: one in knowledge-based systems and
one in genetic algorithms and programming. On the KBS side, we follow
relatively closely the "generic task" viewpoint on KBS work as originally
described by Chandrasekaran et al at Ohio State.
We have two major application areas: production agriculture and polymer
composite materials. The ag projects pages are just now going on - so
please check back on that in about 3 weeks. The pages on our work to
support the design/fabrication lifecycle in composites is pretty well
document in terms of past project, and new pages are going up currently to
describe a major new effort to provide support for conceptual part/process
design for the reassembly of metal assemblies from largely composite
components.
You will also find a fairly extensive set of our publications - may of them
WEB accessible - within our pages.
If you have further questions don't hesitate to send email directly to me.
By the way, you may want to reconsider how you are using the term "model
based knowledge acquisition".
