This workshop is organised by COIL, a collaboration between four Networks of Excellence (funded by the European Community): MLNET (Machine Learning, Case-Based Reasoning and Knowledge Acquisition), ERUDIT (Fuzzy logic and uncertainty), NEuroNet (neural networks) and EvoNet (Evolutionary Computing). The purpose of the workshop is to explore the following issues:

• what are the criteria for choosing between the methodologies of the different networks?
• how do different technologies address common problems such as missing data, preprocessing and postprocessing?
• is it possible to combine methodologies to improve over the results of a single methodology?
• will these technologies merge in the near future?

These issues will be addressed by speakers from the networks and this will be followed by a panel discussion.
