Cis Schut (1960) obtained his ``Doctoraal''-degree (M.Sc) in cognitive psychology at the Department of Social Sciences Informatics (SWI) of the University of Amsterdam in 1991. During his studies he has worked as a market researcher for a company in the private sector. In 1991 he took up a position as assistant researcher at the Department of Marketing Management of the faculty of Business Administration of the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. The project that he started there addressed the issue of characterizing the expertise of marketeers. In 1992 he joined the Department of Social Science Informatics (SWI ) of the University of Amsterdam . He is employed as a researcher by the dutch "Foundation for Informatics Research" (SION) on a project called "Qualitative Modelling of the Physical World". His work is aims at developing a methodology for constructing qualitative simulation models of physical devices. Currently he is in the process of finishing his PhD dissertation. His main research interests concern model based reasoning, in particular qualitative reasoning, man-machine interaction, intelligent tutoring systems, and knowledge based systems in general.
